Got my '91 donor car home today (finally, there's a 10 minute story on the antics of the local wrecker who sold the same car to two different people) and the key is missing for the ignition. I would get one made from the serial numbers but alas....oh never mind...
How do you get the ignition switch out so I can get a key made?
The HONDA UK site is down now.
Thanks
Paul

Re: How do you remove an ignition switch?
Since you're asking about having a key made, I assume you're referring to the ignition key lock and not the ignition switch. The ignition switch is just an electrical unit.
I've never removed a key lock before, but I believe you unbolt it from the opposite end from where the key goes in. If you remove the plastic moulding on the bottom half of your steering console, you should see the ignition switch (circular, with a large cluster of wires coming out of it). The ignition switch connects to the back of the key lock. You should be able to see how everything bolts in. It's not hard to get in there, and I'm sure it is just threaded in from the back.
You'll be the first one on here to attempt something like this, and if I'm off the mark here, please let us know what you see.

Re: How do you remove an ignition switch?
Well, I finally got around to working on it today, and managed to get the whole ignition key lock housing off the column. Just 2 screws that clamp the it to the column. Now I can at least stear it off the trailer. Not going to worry about the key anymore as I can start it by rotating the switch part of it from the back.
So I got it running and put it in DRIVE and the engine just locked right up, like the TC was locked. I'll continue this story and question in the next thread so as to stay on topic.
Thanks
Paul
