The car starts up and runs for like 5mins and then it bogs out and I try to start it back up and it won't, I checked all the wires to battery and to alternator , so my question is can I do an old test where if I take of the battery when the car is running and if it stays on the is because the alternator is good. Now because this car is so old dose this test work on them?
Thx.

Easiest thing to do would actually be to just take the battery and have it tested. Most stores that sell car batteries will offer free battery tests. This will help you determine if the problem is the battery itself.

You mean that the alternator power lead is coming off? Disconnect the battery and get that fixed. This might be the reason why you're discharging power.
