Plastic Alternator Wire Channel

Post by 1990whitepreluded »

Hello again all.....this may be a hard one, but does anyone know where I can get the plastic channel that runs through the groove in the valve cover gasket. It holds the Alternator wires and I guess keeps the heat off of them????? I have already looked on hondaautomotiveparts.com and the exploded valve cover view doesn't show it.

I currently have the valve cover off of the car because the boxofrox i bought the car from snapped one of the bolts off down in the center stud. Have any of you done custom paint or coatings of any kind on yours? Since its off I think Im going to have it dipped, cleaned and painted before I put it back on.

I believe you're referring to parts 10 & 11 on this diagram:

http://www.hondapartscheap.com/southbay ... vinsrch=no

Part numbers 32130-PK2-010 and 32131-PK2-010

I have painted my valve cover. Any type of engine paint will work fine. You just need something that will withstand the heat. Just make sure you clean it up very well before painting. I'd advise choosing a dark color. Some people in the past have chosen to paint their valve colors yellow, or even white. This might look nice, but it gets dirty very easily and so the look doesn't last. There's a good reason that valve colors are black to start with. I painted mine dark blue and it looks fine.

No problem. Happy to help.

My Honda knowledge? Honestly, I'm still learning every day, but what I do know has come from years of being around cars and working on a lot of Preludes. When I was a teen, my friend and I went to the auto wrecker every saturday for nearly 3 years and took Preludes apart to fix up our own. I learned a lot doing that. Also, time on forums and in books has helped. I've personally owned 3 preludes, and most of my friends have had a couple as well, so I've had plenty of exposure to these magnificent cars.

I'm a do-it-yourself type person. If I don't know how to do something, I just learn it, and this has been particularly true where my cars are concerned. Countless repairs, a dozen or so engine swaps and a couple of body re-paints later, I've picked up a thing or two.

These days, I don't get to work on my car as much as I'd like, but I still get out and turn wrenches every once and a while. That's the great thing about working on cars; there's always something to do (because even if your car is running perfectly, your friend's isn't) and you're never too old or too young to do it. I think I learned to change oil at about age 6, and I've loved working on cars ever since.

Since my own car hasn't faltered in 5 years or so, I'm glad that people come on this forum and ask for help. It keeps us all sharp. Recalling old techniques and repairs is good for the memory. Preludes are getting to be old cars, and anybody that takes an interest in keeping one on the road is a friend of mine.

Speaking of videos...keep your eyes open...there's more coming soon.
