When you say "eats up" what sort of tire damage are you seeing?

And no, it's not common.

they just ware our really quick (normal wear), just this last year i had to put 2 sets of tires on.

That doesn't sound right at all, unless you're doing your daily driving on race tires. Doubtful.

I'd have your alignment checked. Perhaps your front wheels are toed badly and you're basically plowing down the road. However, be that the case, I would expect to see some cupping marks on the tire edges.
