Neutral Safety Switch
hey guys i was wondering if anyone knows anything about neutral safety switchs. Jst bought a 93 Si prelude and everything works great but the car wont start sometimes, however sometimes it stars in neutral. Iv narrowed it down to what im pretty sure is a faulty or broken saftey switch, as the engine doesnt turn at all thus the battery is not dead. Does anyone know how to adjust the switch or where i can get them replaced.
thanks
ps. im new so i have no idea whether i posted this in the right place

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
Is your car an automatic or a manual?

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
Your prediction that this is due to a faulty Neutral Safety Switch could be correct.
The shop manual says that the Neutral Safety Switch only allows starting in Neutral or Park. Perhaps part of your switch is worn out. You probably should just replace it.
I found the following picture in the shop manual on page 14-31. The shift position switch may have nodes on it for the neutral safety switch.
You should probably review some of the material in the manual. The manual is available in our manuals section.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
On the manual transmission version, the switch is located at the clutch pedal. See if you can find remnants of it there.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
had the same problem with my brother's prelude. last week its all fine then yesterday those symptoms happen. its an AT btw and after checking it the diagram is also correct. Would isolate the problem soon, and I have been searching online for a replacement neutral safety switch since my brother is using it all the time.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
If I remember correctly, the switch is located right along the underside of the shifter mechanism.
Pull the console out and look on the drivers side, just down and under the shifter. You will see a white plastic piece attached, lengthwise, to the shift mechanism. That's the shift lever position switch i.e. neutral safety switch.
I found it at Auto Zone. Link to the part I found there:

Also found it at Majestic Honda: - look at the middle of the image, right under number 36, look down. That's the shifter position switch - it's part number 4 in the list. Two bolts attach it to the housing, and then the split plug connectors attach to the main wiring harness.
