Engine smoking white smoke

Post by sosaprelude93 »

Hello fellow prelude drivers fourth Gen.
Well looks like my engine is not going to be an easy one ..... checked the compression of my vehicle reading are giving me 125; 160; 150; 135 ... what is the compression supposed to be?
Also exhaust system is outputting white smoke which when it does happen the engine fluctuates ...
Now these signs points to head gaskets but the smoking stop after continuous driving ....
SOS anyone out there have any words of advice or knowledge to which I can use for this project car?

Compression should be between 135 and 178 psi with a maximum of 28 psi deviation between all cylinders. Judging from your numbers, something isn't right. Be sure you're testing them with wide open throttle or else you may not get good readings.

White smoke indicates that the coolant is getting into your combustion chamber. I'd have a look at your radiator and your coolant reservoir to see if they are slowly emptying out.

Yeah, in the distributor.

Pop the distributor cap off and make sure everything looks tight in there. Check for play in the shaft and other signs of damage (dust, etc) and wear.

Might be time for a new distributor.

Also, be sure to pull the ECU fuse and then see if the code still returns.
