buying a 94 prelude vtec.help

Post by JFV »

hi im in the process of purchasing a 94 import prelude 2.2vtec.
can anyone tell me what to look out for etc etc
it has 93,000km on it and has a mph convertor
i have had a look at the rear arches and there is no rust, ive had a good check underneath and its pretty good only signs of rust are on the exhaust backbox.
the only problem ive found out while testdriving it is that v-tec hesitates kicking in for a millisecond in 1st gear but drives mint in all other gears, is it a problem with the chip? i dunno.
hope someone can shed some light on that for me
thanks 8)

Not sure about the VTEC. That might be due to the speed sensor.

As for the rest of the car, sound like you're on the right track looking for rust. In my experience, the rear wheel arches and the trunk lid are the first places the 4th gens start to rust out. Take the car for a test drive if you can and listen for any suspect sounds. The engine should run strong, and not blow any smoke, even under VTEC. Make sure the tranny is shifty smoothly and the gears mesh up well. The 4th gens are very solid cars, so as long as it looks like it has been maintained, it should be fine.
