hello,
well heres the thing. i was working on my car the other day and i accidentally knocked off the the egr vacuum line so my car started throwing off a code 12 which is the egr valve. so i went and plugged the vacuum line back in and it is still throwing off the same code. do i have to reset the ecu or something?

Yeah, you may just need to reset the ECU to clear the code. To do this, just pull out the ECU fuse (with car off) for 60 seconds. The fuse is in the main fuse box under the hood.
