99 Prelude owner: how longer??? please help!

Hi all!

I am new to the forum,

The thing is that I have a 99 prelude, AT , with 135K miles (second owner). I just replaced the AT for a used one (last one broke), but from time to time it seems to not work properly. The thing is I want to keep this for my girlfriend daily commute for a length of 3 years. She will put around 12k miles every year, so 36K miles more.

I have two options: I can buy a newer car such as Honda civic but more expensive. Or I can keep my prelude, and replace the AT for a new one. If this is the case,
how longer should I expect my car to last? and also : Is there anything else as serious as the engine and the transmission to worry about in the future?

Thanks a lot!!

Tough question, because the longevity of the car depends on how all the other parts of you car are working.

At any rate, a new transmission should last a long time. The Honda ones are good quality.

any way (test/inspection/sound/etc) to check whether my engine will last for long?

Having a compression test is usually very telling.

Otherwise, check for leaks and listen for worrying sounds.
