1982 Starter removal

Post by jackzhead »

Can anyone tell me where the mounting bolts are for the starter on a 1982 Prelude? Trying to take it off so I can replace the solenoid contacts.
Thanks you

Hello,

I'm short on experience and diagrams for that model year, but I'll do my best to help all the same.

The starters on Honda Preludes are always mounted horizontally usually on the top side of the transmission housing. This should be on the left side of you engine bay (if you're standing in front of the car). The starter will fasten with bolts that run horizontally across the car through the starter body and then into the transmission housing/block. Locate the starter first, and you should be able to locate the bolts.

I appreciate the help. I looked at the diagrams you provided plus looked at the 1983 model and it looks similar to the 82 so will try it again and let you know.
Thanks
