non stop problems after transmission went. HELP!

Post by kittyjayde »

Sorry this is a long story but mechanics are jerking me around and i need help asap! I have a 97 Prelude VTIR. After having the car for a year just when it hit 190k the transmission went which i know it common in the autos. Long story short im not in the best cash situation but i forked out for a second hand transmission which had a 30 day warranty & took it to a so called honda specialist to put it in. Big mistake ...after getting the car back the engine light was on no power drinking fuel would not hit vtec engine was hot just slugged along ...not to mention i found a spanner in my engine which the idiot had left there! Took it back and told him to fix whatever he had done came back and he had not fixed the problem just blown a fuse :x Took it to 2 other mechanics one said he didnt know but it was electrical the other mechanic ran the computer he had damaged etc plug wire when taking out the engine no to mention the transmission he has just installed was bone dry..replaced the ect filled up tranny fluid car ran ok for awhile before bang hard shifting when revs get high engine light no vtec d light flashing speedo stops working and every time i would stop the car would jerk forward. Took it to another mechanic who worked out Speedometer sensor was out so replaced that which fixed everything but two issues the car still jerks forward when i stop (revs dont move) & still shifts a little hard i am praying that this trannys not gone aswell because the warranty just ran out im expecting a baby in a month and need it sorted by then its a nightmare. Anybody have any ideas? Would a transmission flush help? Also probably not related but brakes are now screeching and pulling to the side. Thanks

That's a handful of problems you've got there.

I'd suggest starting with simple things. Sounds like you've got all your check engine lights sorted out, so you can move on to mechanical things. I'd double check the level and condition of your transmission fluid for starters. Follow the directions in your owners manual or the service manuals link above to check the automatic transmission fluid. Good ATF is usually red and filled to the appropriate level. If the fluid is brown and smells of burnt toast, you'll need to have it replaced for sure. If it's low, top it up. Be sure to follow the procedure in the manual.

The braking issue is perhaps more concerning because bad brakes can endanger yourself and those around you. If by 'screeching' you mean 'squealing', you may just need new brake pads. The pulling to one side could be caused by improperly bled brake lines. Start by doing an inspection of your brake pads, and then if you can bleed the brakes. If they still don't work well after that, then you can start looking into potential mechanical problems with the brakes.
