In 5th gear on fwy, it quit engaging the trany. Motor still running, but turned off when I let it coast. Tried to start it & for a spit second seemed to turn motor then all you heard was the starter spinning. Any ideas?

Sorry, I just want to clarify.

You're saying that the engine shut off when you let the car coast in 5th gear? Or did put it in neutral at speed and coast and then the engine died.
