4ws conversion??

Post by cucurumbe »

I saw a guy on craigslist selling a conversion kit for A 3 gen. Is this a good idea? I've seen a couple of the threads out there saying its a good idea? Whats your take on it? If it is a good idea where do you find them at? Is this a golden opportunity that i shouldn't miss?

I got mine from a wrecker. Still haven't put it on though.

You need the rear rack, the shaft that goes from front to rear, the front rack and some extra plumbing bits for the power steering. You also need the rear main bracket that all the control arms bolt to.

Making the swap should be easy, but very labor intensive. It will require completely taking apart both the front and rear steering systems of the car. There are instructions on the web detailing how to do it.

Once it is done, you'll have to get an alignment DONE BY HONDA. The alignment requires a special tool that only Honda dealers will have. Before taking your car to the shop, ask the mechanic about the procedure for doing a 4ws alignment. If he doesn't say anything about the special tool, go someplace else.
