Yet Another Prelude

My dad is buying another Prelude. It's a 91 Si, like my first one, except manual and with the tan interior. It's in excellent shape, but the B21 is dying so we'll probably try to find a B20 to swap into it. To make room for it I'm going to put my 91 up for sale.

Pics required for sure. I like that you and your dad keep bringing Preludes into the stable. You've got quite a collection going.

The only thing better than having three Preludes is having four of them.

We're going to get the car sometime during the week. I also may finally have a buyer for the 95, so I may just keep my 91, whether fixing some of what ails it or just using it as a beater until the wheels fall off (either proverbially or literally). I still have financial issues, but I want to sell some of the spare parts I got with the 93 instead of another car. We had a plan for what we were going to do with all these cars, but it may have changed if this person gets the 95.

We brought the new car home this evening. It looks pretty good aside from some obscure dings. The speedometer and odometer (stopped at 145k, now about 160) don't work, and part of the stock intake is missing. Other than the sound system it's purely stock. It's unbelievably easy to shift, maybe too easy for my liking. As I mentioned before, the B21 is in its death throes. It's knocking badly, it idles much higher than it should (and kept creeping higher; by the time we got it home and I drove it, it was idling at almost 2000), and burns oil terribly. Shortly into the journey home, the CEL csme on, so we stopped and Dad checked the oil; it was a quart low. He filled it up and we took off again. He said the CEL came on again, but it ran better after. I stayed behind him to watch to see if the engine blew. We took his minivan there, and on the way back I drove it. He called me to ask how fast we were going, as he had put his tach up to 3000 in 5th gear. We were going 55 MPH at the time (on a freeway with a 65 speed limit). I thought "Wow, I'm at 70 in 5th at 3000." I got to thinking that if that's the case, I would be at or near 140 MPH by redline (6250), so why bother with an expensive engine swap? I'm not a drag racer. I prefer curvy roads instead, and I'm never going to hit 140 on something like the Tail of the Dragon or Skyline Drive. I'd rather just stick with the F22, but get it tuned in a way that helps it take off faster, similar to my dad's 97 SH. The seller also talked about how, except at the highest levels of motorsport, the driver is more important than the car, and I found that to be a good point.

Yeah, the 3rd gens have really short gearing. Perfect for aggressive driving, but bad for highway cruising. The tranny that came on the B21 cars is particularly short, which makes it perfect for fast acceleration.

I have to ask, is the engine a B21A1, or did you stumble upon the ultra rare B21?

As far as I know, it's an A1. I don't know much about the B21A as to whether it had the same piston issues as its North American counterpart.

Elspectro's dad here. After lurking a while I decided to join.

Hello all.

The black one is the one he speaks of. The red one was purchased spring of this year and the one under cover in the background is his.

We have 5 in the herd right now.

Welcome!

5 Preludes might be a record on this forum. Thanks for keeping so many of these great cars on the road. Both of the ones pictured are fine specimens.

3 -91 si's, a 93 s and a 97 SH.
4 outta 5 are black. :)

His 91 donated the motor to my black n tan one and the auto tranny to my red one. It's sitting on donuts housing the multitude of parts for future use in the three. At some point the broken motor will be rebuilt, and the 'parts barn' car will hopefully converted to 4ws and an H22.

^^ the black n tan got moth-balled for a little while.

Update:
We are down to 4 that run. The original 91 is still a 3g parts hoard barn. Our 4th n 5th hoard is generally indoors consisting of boxed parts. The 3g hoard is fenders, quarter panels, door panels and a quarter ton (figuaratively) of better than on the car or spare parts like water pumps n radiators.

Now another 5th gen replaced the red auto car. The red car got sold to a guy who has continued restoring it. The funds completed the $ needed to swap in an H23 into the minty shell of an 01 that came with a broken H22.
Current herd is the moth-balled 91, a 93s that soldiers on as a daily driver, a 2001 base model and my bucket of bolts 97 SH, which is in full restore mode.

^^ the 2001 pre- motor swap

^^ we have room for 1 more...a 2g if fate allows.

^^ we made a sign

^^ we bought a cart to shuttle tools up n down the driveway.
The license plate is from a car we've bought some parts from in Texas to get the 01 road worthy and get my 97 going.

^^ we ended 014 picking parts from this 00.
At a local junkyard there was an 00, a 93 and an 89 all within 50' of each other at the close of last year. We got literally a pickup load of stuff between the 3. The 89 had 287k but a clock with a cover. The 93 had 254k but some decent parts like spare tire tools and hard to find oem intake parts.
We figure on spending 015 fixing up the 4th n 5ths and late in the year give the 91 some restore in time to tag it with an antique plate in 016. If a decent 2nd gen falls from the sky, we'll add that to the herd.

Your pics are the best. I love that your driveway looks like a Prelude meetup.

Keep us updated. I'm curious to see how your restoration projects develop.

And do find a 2nd gen...they're pure magic. I miss mine.

Will do sir.

One, the other, or both of us will post updates about the black n tan 91 as it happens on this thread since it's that "yet another Prelude."lol Maybe a group shot or two as well.

The 5th gen cars will be a separate thread if that's ok.
