ABS LIGHT COMING ON

Post by karvel4eva »

So I've got a '96 prelude. My ABS light keeps coming on, its a steady light. It doesn't come on when I turn on the car, but when I start driving, I can hear a low humming sound then the light will go on and the humming stops. I haven't driven my car in a month or so, and the light has never been on before. I've been told that it could just be slush or snow stuck up in there. I live in Minnesota after all, so that makes sense. But I just wanna know if this is something I should spend money on to get checked or not.... or is this something I should just ride out til winter's over and see what happens?

Please help!!

Is the humming sound the ABS activating? Can you feel it in your brake pedal?

I bet you probably just have a sensor gooed up with slush or something due to the winter weather. A sensor not reading correctly would make the light come on for sure. When you roll to a stop, does one of your brakes flutter on and off rapidly?

So far I haven't noticed any difference with the brakes. It feels normal to me.

Have you checked the ABS fuse?

I'm going to have to go with a contaminant on one of the sensors probably.

Check the fluid in the ABS reservoir too, just in case. Most people aren't aware that the ABS has a fluid supply of it's own.

But I bet it's a wheel sensor.
