1992-1996 Honda Prelude EDM factory parts, options and specs

Post by S-LudeDan »

This thread shows various EDM specs, parts and factory options for the 1992-1996 Honda Prelude. Some items shown here are also JDM, USDM and other markets.

Please feel free to post any info or photos you want.

Exterior Specifications - Headlights

Image
Image
^^^ 2-piece black housing headlights. STANLEY.
Image
Image
^^^ black border housing corner lights. STANLEY.

Image
Image
^^^ 2-piece chrome housing headlights. STANLEY. Notice the
chrome arches in the housing? The USDM stock headlights are different.
Look below for comparison...

Image
^^^ These are USDM. No chrome arches like EDM.

Image
^^^ Some ludes in Europe (mostly Germany) had motorized height adjusting headlights (2-piece chrome or black housing).
This is the switch to control these headlights. It helps adjust the beam.
The switch fits in the center console, replacing one of the blanks.
Image
^^^ Headlight Adjuster switch inside a console plate. 92-93 ludes.

Image
^^^ Honda also offered this nifty little option. Headlight washers.
Here is a pic of the switch and the relay that controls the system.
The switch fits in the center console, replacing one of the blanks.

Exterior Specifications - Lighting

Image
^^^ Amber Side Markers. STANLEY. All European Preludes came stock with these. *you will notice side markers on all Preludes in this thread.

Image
^^^ Clear reflectors. STANLEY. 1994-96 models.
Since European Prelude had side markers there was no need to have the outer bumper lights utilize the blinking function. Instead, there were these outside clear reflectors. They were often combined with either all amber or amber/clear bumper lights.
Image
^^^ *92-93 models had amber reflectors.
Image
^^^Here is a pic of the reflectors. These are Genuine Honda.:tu:
Image
Image
Image
^^^ More pics. Notice that there is no opening for the socket?

Image
Image
^^^Now here are the JDM clear cornering lights. These are a completely different cup of tea. I will get into these later. These do have a bulb and a socket, they illuminate the area to where you are turning.

Image
^^^ USDM. In USA Preludes have rear bumper reflectors. In Europe that is not the case.
Image
Image
^^^ No rear bumper reflectors. EDM.

Great post Dan! Thanks for putting that up.

I didn't know hardly any of those facts. Very good knowledge to share, and to have.

In particular I really like the headlight position switch. That's a great idea!

And I really want cornering lamps now. I've always liked them and never knew they were ever available on the Prelude.

Ya know, working in the industry of car manufacturing, I understand why there are options available for some and not others, but to me, I've always thought it really sucked that if there is an option on one, it most likely is not available on another. ANY option should be made same or available to all or anyone purchasing that vehicle. I've always felt tons of money is lost because people can't get what they want.

I hate that someone dictates who is to have adjustable headlamps or cornering lamps, etc. Laws be damned.

If they have it in Germany or Japan, I should be able to have it in the USA or Australia or wherever..... :!:

^ I agree. I always think about that kind of stuff. :)

Exterior Specifications - Rear Fog Lights

Image
Image
^^^ 1992-1996 Honda Prelude EDM Rear Fog Light.

*Rear Fog lights are a requirement in Europe. The purpose of the rear fog
is to allow the visibility of your car to OTHER drivers in extreme conditions.

Image
Image
^^^ In UK the rear fog is on the right side of the rear bumper.

Image
^^^ In other countries like Germany for example, the rear fog is on the left side. Germany, Austria, Italy, France and many other countries have the steering wheel on the left side. Just like USA!!!
Only UK and some other Euro countries like Ireland and Scotland have the wheel on the right side like Japan.:tu:

Image
Just to balance out the look, dual rear fogs.

Image
Image
Image
^^^ EDM Rear Fog Switch. Fills the spot for where your usual USDM dimmer switch goes. Wondering what to do about the dimmer?
Don't worry. In Europe they had an alternate version dimmer that fits in
the center console. Check out the pic below.

Image
^^^ EDM dimmer switch. Fits in the center console.

Image
^^^ Rear Fog Light disassembled. Lens, Housing and Bracket.

Interior Specifications - EDM coin pull out tray, rare.
Also notice the coin holder? Yep, Europe had that too.

The in-dash spec, is a storage tray that pulls out from underneath the dash.

EDM cargo lights. Bottom corner of the door panels. Light up when the door is open. These allow people too see
the cargo area and the ground area at night. Clear ones (see pic.) are more common, the red ones are really rare.
These are Stanley, and a very rare feature in a 4th gen Prelude. Luxury option.

Here is one of the absolute hardest options to come by. EDM Hood Protector.
This is a Genuine Honda Factory part. Access option from Europe.

There is a possibility that this was also available on the AUDM market. Australia.

I have only seen this twice.

here are some pictures of 92-96 Honda Prelude EDM lip kit. Front lip, side skirts and rear lip are all Genuine Honda. The Altezzas are rice, and I am upset that this kid removed his stock tail lights. The EDM lip kit is Genuine tho.

Some Preludes in Europe and Japan had Chrome interior door handles. In USA, all 4th gens had Black door handles.
These are very rare.

Ya know, the more of these pics that get posted and the more of these really great options I am seeing, the more pissed off I am getting at Honda for screwing over the North American market with these options. ....... the prigs!

The chrome handles are great, but the EDM lip kit is REALLY great. I'd love to have that on my car! It looks really nice and adds just enough of that "aggressive" edge to the car without making it look like something that rolled out of the "Pimp My Ride" garage.

I've always wanted a rear wiper, and the dual antennas that were mounted at the top left and right sides of the rear window. VERY rare. I've seen one real image of them and I have them in a Aoshima Prelude S Package 1/24th scale plastic model kit I bought from Japan. (which I've never put together and no I don't want to sell it  )

-- this is the model kit I was lucky to find years ago, no longer made and perhaps one of the best Prelude model kits ever.

Yeah, that lip kit is uber tight. Kinda making me want a 4th gen with all this stuff. One can never have too many Preludes.

The chrome handles are very nice. Both my 2nd and 3rd gen have chrome door handles on the interior and I've always wondered why this wasn't continued with the 4th gen. They look nice.

Although I can see the utility of a rear wiper, I actually don't like them at all. The fast-back style rear window of the 4th gen is one of its best features, and I've always preferred the look of the car without the wiper spoiling that line. But that's just me.

All great stuff.

Spiffy, I agree with you about the wiper spoiling the lines on the fastback look of the rear glass, but down here, in the tropics where it rains all the damn time from Spring to Winter...... (aside from the golf-ball sized hail and tornadoes) a rear wiper would indeed be very handy for bad visibility in the heavy rains we get. I use my defroster to keep the window clear as much as possible when it rains........

In case anybody is wondering, the dual antennas that I made reference to, were for TV reception. TV ANTENNAS, imagine that.

The JDM car had an in-dash TV, factory installed. In the JDM car, the TV was located at the far left side of the smoked plastic dash housing cover, next to the left tweeter housing cover. Opposite of course in the USDM car. I have seen a couple of pics where guys had put there on small LCD screens in their dash, but didn't look as good as the real thing did.

If you click this link that leads to the URL for the Japanese Prelude model kit I have, you can see the antenna(s) on the back upper section of the rear glass. There were two, one on each side. You have to look close to see them, the image is small.

And up here, rear wipers get in the way of scrapping all the frost off the windows in the morning. Maybe I could deal with the rear wiper instead of having to drive on icy roads 6 months of the year.

I should move...

Some 4th gen Preludes in Europe and Japan
did not have a sunroof.
The switch plate has a blank filler or a rear fog light switch instead of the sunroof switch.

No roof? Wow. This I did not know......and am very surprised to learn this because the "moonroof" in the first gen Prelude was one of the biggest selling points of the car...... Preludes have always had a moon or sunroof. Interesting to know. I wonder what the reason was?
