Good to hear that the hood paint isn't a serious problem. I have the same problem with the clear coat on my lude in a few places. Not much you can do about it other than getting it redone.

TL or TSX is a good choice. I know several people who have those and they've been great cars. One thing to know about the third gen TL is that it doesn't have flip down rear seats, which makes carrying things a real pain. That may or may not be an issue for you depending on how you use the car, but up here, if people can't fit a snowboard in their trunk it becomes a big pain in the butt.

I still have the 95 in my backyard. I've had only two people ask me about it, one of which was a body shop that wanted to lowball me on it (and turn a profit, no doubt) and the other never got back to me, so I'm looking into fixing it as a project and putting it back on the road down the line. The most difficult part would be the quarter panel and wheel well, but I may have found someone to help with that.

That's good news. It's always best to hear of these cars being kept on the road.

Are you planning on banging the old bent panel out or just cutting it off and swapping in a good one?

I initially wanted to try and pop out the dent, but I think it'll probably be better if I get another fender. Taking the fender off would also provide easier access to the wheel well to see the extent of the damage there. Regardless of what happens, I want to swap the Type-S engine into the 93. If the 95 can be easily saved, the more economical F22 might be a better fit for the automatic anyway.

Actually, strike that last part. I forgot about the OBD2-OBD1 conversion required on the Type-S engine. It may be cheaper and easier to find an H22A1 and ECU than have to do two engine swaps and rewiring jobs.

Isn't it possible to just get a conversion harness for that? I know a company called BoomSlang makes them:

That does look a lot simpler than what's in the 95 now. There are a couple of toggle switches on the center console that go between OBD1 and OBD2. I noticed there were two different versions of the harness for my car (A & B), but the same price. What would be the difference?

A quick Google search indicates that the A & B come down to plug design, but I'm not certain which your car would have. You might want to ask that of Boomslang...they might know.

I did find one page that said 1996-2001 Preludes use OBD2A. Who knows how accurate that is though.

They said it depends on the ECU. If the 95 were saved, I'd probably get a bluetop H23A, but that comes with an automatic ECU, so I would have to get a manual VTEC ECU regardless, right?

As far as I know, yes, the ECU is difference between the manual and auto variants.

From what I'm reading, a P13 would work with either engine.

That could be. I could very well be wrong. This may have been one thing Honda improved as the years went on. In the 3rd gens the ECUs are different, but maybe they revised that to unify the design.

A Google search also netted me this, which seems to suggest you can do a conversion: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1275452. The 20th post in the thread mentions the P13.

Hmm. At any rate, this will all have to wait. I've run into some financial problems, so I'm putting the 95 up for sale again. I don't want to, but I don't have much of a choice.

I sold the 95 today. It was sad to see it go, but someone is using it to fix another one that was wrecked.
